File Sharing

Public and Private files can be quickly shared with anyone.  To create an ArDrive File Sharing link, click on and highlight the file you want to share.

This will expand the row of icons at the top right corner of your screen.

File Link

Click on the share icon and a window will pop up in the middle of your screen that contains a link. You can now copy the link and send it to whomever you want to share it with and they will have access to the file forever.

Sharing public files

Here is an example public file shared with ArDrive:

When the recipient accesses a public file sharing link, they will be able to view the file’s details, activity, and download it locally.

Sharing Private Files

Private files can be shared in two ways.  By default, generating a private file sharing link includes the file key in the url for example:

https://app.ardrive.io/#/file/0f29e194-f4d4-49ea-bf0b-9380e11f4241/view?fileKey=mJxlHVz0RTMGQW1JINrQiQ7_pmpLVA5qnUAggkCIxlw 

When this link is accessed, the file will automatically be decrypted and the user can download it.

For additional security, the file key can be removed from the url and shared separately.  Accessing a private file without a file key in the url will prompt the recipient to enter in the key in order to decrypt the file.  For example:

Entering mJxlHVz0RTMGQW1JINrQiQ7_pmpLVA5qnUAggkCIxlw as the password unlocks the file.

Warning: Sharing is only for Public Drives, Private Drives, and individual files. Folders cannot be shared at this time.

Note: Whomever you share a link with can also share that link with others. We plan to provide the option to limit the spread of link sharing in future versions of ArDrive. For now, links are unrestricted in how often they can be shared.
